Thought I'd share some tasty brew with you! No, not witch's brew...but something equally festive for y
our Halloween celebration. Last year we found some super fab specialty Ales just perfect for Halloween. First up is Pumpkin Ale, and like the name implies...there is actually a hint of pumpkin and spice to this beer which is rather nice. And The Headless Horseman gracing the label...makes this ale frightfully delightful. Also available is a dark ale called HobGoblin and a pale ale called Scarecrow. The Scarecrow label is a real hoot with an owl perched on the ar
m of the scarecrow. And these last two were brewed at the "Wytchwood Brewery" of course. Get it? Wytche....Witch.....oh so clever. Anyway, did I mention how festive these bottles look sitting in your kitchen or in a bucket of ice at the party?! I kept these 3 bottles unopened from last year just so I could put them out in the kitchen. So drink up me hardies....yo ho!

We've picked up that Scarecrow Pale Ale in the past, but I've never seen that Pumpkin Ale with the Headless Horseman! I'll have to be on the look out for that. I've had Pumpkin Ale before, and it's really good, but I'm a sucker for packaging! So...'must, get, kind, with headless horse-man.' (Does that translate? I dunno)
Yeah...it had a very unique flavor, I liked the "hint of pumpkin" finish it had once you swallowed it down. And of course the packaging is the bomb! 2 thumbs up!
Oooh i will have to look for the brews the next time I go to the store. I have tried the pumpkin ale and enjoyed it, but it is not something that you'd want to drink in large quantities ha ha. One is enough or it gets tiresome in flavor.
I'm trying to remember which one I tried, will look for it in the stores and get back to you. There's actually a lot of brands out there, check this web which rates them:

I know the pumpkin ales get mixed reviews from people but maybe that has to do with the brewery.
Hey thanks for that link. But I want to get the one you posted on my MySpace page with the Owl. SO SUPER CUTE! I must try that one and possibly get some for my party.
Wychwood products are among my favourite beers. I especially love the Hobgoblin, they also have a nice cider named the Green Goblin. I did not try their pumpkin ale yet, but I did try other brands of pumpkin ales and they tasted nice. But one has to like the flavour of pumpkin first, I guess.
Yes Guillaume...the beers are pretty tasty. And the pumpkin is really good too, though I'm not huge fan of pumpkin. But it's just a hint of the flavor. Makes me want one right now! :o)
Ok, I found you an ale with an Owl on it:

Hi, Wendy !!
Interesting post. I've had several different Halloween-themed ales from Wychwood over the years. Are you familiar with 'Wychcraft' (a blonde beer) or 'BeeWyched' (a honey'd ale), for example?
Another thing I noticed is that the imagery from the 'Scarecrow' label is identical to another one from the same brewery. It's for a beer called 'Circlemaster'. Although it's most likely just a case of re-branding.
Incidentally, I can provide photos of the afore-mentioned bottles if you'd like to add them to your blog. Just let me know.
Yours ghouly,
JJ
Hey Jimmy...nice to meet you!
Are you a Halloween fan too...or just a beer lover? Those other beers sound awesome too. I'd be happy to post some pics...do you work for Wytchwood Breweries? I think these themed ales are the bomb. I want the one with the Owl on it that my friend Cat sent me a pic of. Send the images to:
