Pumpkin House

Kenova’s Great Pumpkin House, located at 748 Beech Street, in Kenova, West Virginia, displays approximately 3,000 carved pumpkins. Owner Ric Griffith has been displaying pumpkins at this location each Halloween since 1992. At night, the lights can be seen from across the river in Ohio. How cool is that? I'm just curious how long it took him to light all those Jacks! Photograph by Dave Fatella.

Last year, I discovered the joy of the fake, carvable craft pumpkin! While I'll always want to have a real pumpkin on the steps, I like the idea of being able to re-use the creations the kids and I do every year. This means that, eventually, I'll be able to have a yard filled with Jack O'Lanterns as well!!!

Yes Gilly...but I'll one up you even. Last year my cousins introduced me to this multi-purpose heated carving tool from Michael's. It's kind of like a Dremel Tool because it has lots of different heads. But it heats up and you can put on the craft knife/razor head and heat carve your Funkin with virtual ease. It takes a LOT of the hard work out of it. We have two that we carved so that we can reuse them. One was a design from many years back called 'Hot Head' with lots of small flames. And the other I designed with our name and a moon. They are both really cool and best all they never rot!
