The 'Spirit' of Cassadaga

According to the local legends, the sleepy town of Cassadaga, Florida lies on an energy vortex in which the spirit and material worlds are uncommonly close. Today, it is regarded by many as the “psychic center of the world.” Have you ever heard of it? A New York Spiritualist, George P. Colby, founded the quaint little historic town in December 1894. "The 114 year old community of spiritually-minded people consists of approximately 57 acres with 55 residences. Those who reside here have chosen to share in a community of like-minded people where they can live, worship and work in harmony with their beliefs. This spiritual center and retreat is home to many psychics, healers and other spiritual practitioners."

While visiting Cassadaga, you can take the nighttime orb photography tour and see if you can tap into its spooky side. You can also sign up for a meditation session, or a class on mediumship and clairvoyance! And of course don't leave without having a "reading." One of Cassadaga's resident mediums or readers will be happy to do a session with you that may help you define areas of conflict, clarify your desires and even put you in touch with spirits from the other side! They have a list of mediums and their phone numbers on the Cassadaga website so plan ahead. http://www.cassadaga.org/ A reading with a medium can vary from 30 minutes to an hour, and ranges in price from $65 to $100.

As for me...I happen to love this charming little town. There are no flashing neon Palm Reader signs or 1-900 numbers there. Rather, there are historic homes on tiny streets where the Mediums, Reverends and Psychics live. There are a few little New Age gift shoppes where you can purchase incense and gemstones and metaphysical books and an old hotel. There is also a cemetery that is just outside the outskirts, yet they claim on the website that there is not one. When we were teenagers there was rumored to be a Devil's chair in the graveyard that if you sat in it at midnight, you'd see the Devil...ha! And every Halloween it is overrun with curious visitors who do nothing but burden the residents. In truth, the town is quiet and sleepy and peaceful and calm, and is in NO way associated with witchcraft or satanism. And YES...I did have a reading there before, when I was a junior in high school...but honestly I really don't remember much about it. Maybe I should get another one done sometime....anyone care to join me?

Yeah...Cassadaga is a nice little town. But when I say little, I mean TINY. I mean like one intersection with some small side steets. Blink and you'll miss it.

There's a very similar place here in Western New York called Lily Dale. It's supposed to be the largest spiritualist community in the world. One day I'll get down there to see it.
