Savannah Georgia is famously known as one of the most haunted cities in the South. And although there are plenty of Ghost stories and Ghost tours to keep you entertained while visiting....there is one ghost that I particularly am fond of. Her name is Anna Powers and she still resides to this day at the 17 Hundred 90 Inn in beautifully historic Savannah Georgia. http://www.17hundred90.com/history.html This is a full service Inn, Restaurant and Lounge in the historic district of Savannah. The rooms are well appointed with antiques, each with it's own fireplace, and the restaurant is very quaint with Southern Charm. But the thing I remember most about staying at this B&B/motel was Room 204....also known as 'Anna's Room'. In the early 1800's, Anna had fallen in love with a married seaman. Distraught, as she watched the sails of his ship disappear down the Savannah river as he headed out to sea...Anna threw herself to her death from the 3rd floor balcony. And that area is said to be the same area where room 204 sits today. During our stay...we stayed 2-3 doors down from 'Anna's Room' because although I love a good ghost story...I can do without having to actually meet the ghost in person. But the employees at the Inn were all too happy to tell you all they knew of Anna and the numerous ways she has made her presence known at the Inn over the years. So much so that some employees have run out of the building screaming and never returned to work.
On the Inn's website, they have posted some photographs that 'supposed' paranormal investigators have snapped, that seem to have captured Anna's restless spirit in them. You can formulate your own opinion as to the authenticity of these. But here is their invitation to visit, should you be brave enough to join them...
"Do you dare to disturb the restless sleep of a lonely soul wandering eternally throughout 17Hundred90, searching for unrequited love? Are these echoes of a violent past, or a plea for a safe and secure future? Is this a forlorn spectre beseeching our assistance to cross over, or is our ghost looking for revenge? Join us............. Miss Powers is just dying to meet you."
