Pick Your Poison

When October rolls around at my house...the (Very) Good Witch begins decking her halls with cobwebs and pumpkins, and witches and owls....and other scary things that go BUMP in the night. But any Good Witch who is worth her salt, will have a Witch's Apothecary on hand to aide in brewing up some magic potions. And I LOVE the look of an old antique apothecary. I have collected an assortment of bottles in all shapes and sizes to hold my magickal ingredients. My Apothecary has been evolving over the last few years. And this year I intend to create some reproduction antique labels to go on my bottles. I also bought a few old Poison bottles to add into my collection this year. I love how the Skull and Bones on them scream out...BEWARE!

If you would like to create your own Apothecary, try scouring antique shows or estate and yard sells. Then simply replace the old labels with some computer generated ones of your own. Or for those of you who are not of the DIY bent...you can find an assortment of cute and colorful bottles like these at Michael's stores. They usually have clever little names like "Eye of Newt", "Ground Bone Preserves" or "Graveyard Dust". I also just found a wonderful offering from Richard Miller's Spook Show site that might help to get the creative juices flowing. He has generously posted a down-loadable zip file of Vintage Poison Labels that can be printed out and pasted onto your old jars and bottles. Download the labels at: www.spookshows.com/poison/poison.htm
How Fiendishly Fabulous! And he offered up another mondo clever suggestion for their use as well...try putting them on the cocktail glasses at your Halloween bash and let your Ghoulish Guests pick their Poison!
