So what do you think? This was my labor of love this Halloween season. I was aiming for an old, Victorian sort of look and feel to my Apothecary. Picking the names and ingredients was a lot of fun. I can't wait for my friends and neighbors to come check it out at this year's Halloween party. They will be convinced that I am completely off my nut! And maybe, just maybe....they are right! Ha Ha Ha! I don't care what anyone thinks. I say let's give them something to talk about.
UPDATE May 29, 2009 When I set out to revamp my existing Apothecary and give it an older look and feel...I went searching on-line for ideas and photos. I came across some photos of bottles in an image search that were my inspiration. I found 2 sites that I thought were closest to the look I had in my mind's eye. The name of one site was www.aranamuerta.com, and that gal's work was fabulous. Not only was the work top notch, but she also gave step by step instructions for how to make them. So I used some of her ideas and general color scheme as a guide...but her technique was too labor intensive for me because I am inherently lazy...ha! So mine don't look as great as hers, but I was still pretty proud of them. I did make some changes of course to try and make them my own. I used my own apothecary name and text and some of my ingredients were different also. I borrowed a few of her cool names and then had to invent some of my own as well, which was big fun. However that is also what took me the longest time because I can get a bit neurotic about little details like that. Also, a lot of my bottles are actually vintage bottles that I've collected over the years, so I didn't want my labels permanently affixed, so I just used a glue stick and sometimes tie on mailing labels as well.
Well wouldn't you know, I found my way back to her site finally by web surfing through Halloween blogs, and now she actually sells the potions bottles. Eeegads! Why is it, that my timing is always off? If she had started selling these last year, I could have bought her fabulous creations and saved myself an awful lot of time and effort. Boo hoo! Oh well...maybe another 'Halloween Head' like myself will be able to benefit anyway. Check out her website and follow it to her Etsy store to purchase. Oh, and the bottles are one of the smaller things she creates...her big stuff is equally incredible, but way out of my league to attempt.

Those are so awesome! What a fantastic display! I love it!
The labels look perfect! Just the right feeling of age, with that element of believability. Your jars also ad that extra dose of vintage realism. Would love to see the whole collection. I want to come to your halloween bash!
Bad Bad girl fo not coming to Boston this year.. the Autumn colors are Spooktacular!
You are soooo amazing!!
Your creative perfection has left me speechless!! :)
Aw shucks you guys...your comments have made me the happiest Wicked Witch of the South! Ya'll are WAY too kind. But I do appreciate fully your feedback because these bottles were one of my 2 big Halloween projects this year. And I did a lot of creative research and spent a lot of actual man hourse just to get them perfect. And everytime I walk into my dining room and look at them, I think what a complete Halloween nutter I am, and how my neighbors are just going to scratch their heads and wonder WHY? And then I think how only me myself, and all of my Halloween and/or creative friends (ie. YOU ALL) are the only ones who can truly appreciate all those little nuiances and details. To me they are were important...and it means everything to me to have like minded people to share them with, because it is the synergy of you all that encourages me to keep stretching and creating. So THANK YOU for your feedback and for the constant source of inspiration that each of you are to me. Truly from my heart!
Oh...and Jon, yes I know! Not only am I bad for not making the trip, but I am fighting VERY HARD not to let myself get downhearted about not going this year. I SO WANT to be up there right now. And I WILL be up there next year. But you would be a welcome guest at our party my friend! :o)
These are genuinely fantastic Wens. I can see all the hard work that has gone into them and I can imagine the fun it was coming up with the names, as well as creating the perfect ambiance/label for the names. As usual your creativity has jumped a few more notches up on the 'awe' factor! xoxo
Okay...I love the "Bats Blood Tonic"!!! That is neato!
