we'en cards in the front, and I didn't care to have my haunted lil' hopes squelched by the site of discounted school supplies and garden goods. But I made a last minute decision that the walk couldn't hurt, and thought that maybe I would pass some housewares on the way...though I didn't! Imagine my utter exuberance at finding the area somewhat cleared out, and the Hallowe'en signs hanging from the rafters. I just about did a happy dance right there in the aisle. I quickly started scanning the shelves that had things on them already, and as I made my way into the center section...I spotted the 'lucky employee' pushing out a cart stacked with boxes. I stealthily moved in closer to him for some recon, while pretending to be extremely interested in the 5 items that were already on the shelves next to him. Finally, I thought I would implode if I didn't say something. So I professed to being SO VERY excited to find Hallowe'en merchandise being put out. Apparently sensing a fellow Hallowe'en Head....the employee was quick to jump into conversation, and welcome me closer to peer into the boxes as he unloaded them. I had become the VIP of the Seasonal section at Target.
'Lucky Employee' looks forward to opening the seasonal boxes too it seems, and he even said that they've been there since July. He said that the employees finally couldn't stand it any longer themselves, so they started opening boxes to see what was new. While we talked, he pulled out decorative skull candles that bleed when they are burned, haunted houses that looked more like castles this year, haunted books that move around on the shelf, stone statues whose eyes light up red, candelabras, party goods, costumes, and what appears to be this year's main theme....SKELANIMALS! They are an assortment of black Halloween animal
s that have a white skeleton painted on top. I thought they were pretty cute so I bought a couple to share with you. Of course I picked Oliver the Owl and Kit the Cat! They were on key chains, pillows, blankets, pumpkins...you name it! We also discussed our shared frustration at how Target will NEVER allow us to take the store signs when the holiday is over, but rather they throw them away instead. What a complete waste! But apparently it has to do with copyright issues and not wanting other stores to use their merchandising materials. That makes sense...but still....I could really make use of them as props in my photography, not to mention decor. We had such a great time chatting while he worked, that I really didn't want to pull myself away, but I felt I may have been crossing the line between 'customer' and 'stalker', so I decided to give the dude a break and leave...ha!

On my way out, I went past the magazine rack and guess what I found? Country Living is now out, as is another Phyllis Hoffman magazine, called "Celebrate Halloween". I think she is trying to give ole' Mar
tha a run for her money. I must say, that I do like her magazines...very nice styling and photography. Country Living though, wasn't all that wonderful, but I'd still get it because I am insane that way...ha! So for those of you who haven't made your rounds to Target in the last few days....go now....the unveiling has begun! :o)

We don't have Target up her :(( But Wal*Mart started last week putting out their Hallowe'en merch. It has to be completely out by Sept 11. They only had 2 aisles somewhat filled. I got a cute lil witch's hat tealight holder. I'm waiting to see if they will have another piece of their Hallowe'en village...I want to add to my collection this year.
Time for another trip to the newsstand :)
Now if only I had a Target that wasn't 90 minutes away! LOL
)O(
boo
Waiting on Walmart with Rowan, as we don't have Target in Canada! I did hit the Dollar Tree store across the border in Washington state yesteday, and came home with bags of Halloween decorations! They had some really neat stuff - I was surprised.
Snapped up the Country Living too - but I buy it every month.
Oooo..I'm going to have to visit my local target soon then, I eagerly await any new Halloween toys they might be selling this year. :-D
Well, no luck here at Target. They had started to put out costumes, but they were still cleaning out the school section. And no housewares stuff, which is weird. They usually have that stuff out on an endcap by now. I'm thinking maybe by this weekend, they will have the displays up and some stuff out. I might try the other Target sometime at mid-week.
I will have to look for that Phyllis Hoffman magazine. I'm curious to see what's in it. I flipped thru the Country Living, but I didn't pick it up this year. At least not yet. I need to look thru it again when I'm not being rushed.
Love that owl! I'm glad to see my favorite magazines are finally coming out! :)
i am going to target tomorrow!!! i was the a few days ago and they had nothing. i guess they wait for labor day weekend. thanks!!!
Wow, you got to "see behind the curtain" so to speak at Target!
I'm jealous.
I checked our local Target on Friday and alas, only the Halloween cards and some kids t-shirts were up.
Can't... wait... much... longer...

Wow...I can't believe you gals don't have Target in Canada...I'm sorry about that because I love Target! And yes Steve...I got myself a 'back stage pass' and boy was it fun! It was like opening presents on Christmas morning as a kid! :o)
And for those of you still waiting on your own Targets...it has to be any day now, so check back each weekend! I need to go back to see all the stuff that wasn't put out yet myself!
Autumn is Coming! :o)
My Target started putting out their display this weekend! Not much is on the shelves yet, but I already like the offerings I've seen better than last year's. The skeleanimals are really cute! I have a feeling my daughter will go nuts for those!!
I can't wait to go now. I love this time of year. I think I want one of those candles. ooooo and those keychains for my girls. And....Oh dear, there goes my grocery budget. LOL
Nice to meet you Anastasia...yeah, Target is always bad on the budget. Their designers are just too good! And yeah Gil...those Skelanimals are super cute, I bet she will like them. I do...but them I'm a big kid at heart anyway! :o)
