I've been on a reading spree this last week. First I've found a new gal, whose books I simply adore. Her name is Sara Addison Allen. She's an author from Asheville, NC and the first book I read was called "Garden Spells"! I fell in love with the book because first of all, it is set in the South..so of course any Southern gal like myself is going to like that. And secondly, because it infuses some 'magic' into everyday life. (That happens to be my favorite reading recipe.) I loved it so much, that the very next day I wen
t out and bought her second book, "The Sugar Queen", and I loved it equally as much. The cashier at Barnes & Noble and I, were noting how her books have the same 'magic' formula as "Practical Magic", which I thought was just a movie. But it turns out the movie was based on the book of the same name, by Sarah Hoffman. So I promptly bought that one as well, and have finished them all. I loved each of them, and I can't wait for Allen's newest book due out next year, titled "The Girl Who Chased The Moon"! But then I was thirsty for more, so I went back to the bookstore again. And this time, it was the title and cover that caught my eye. This book literally jumped off the bookshelf at me, from amid a thousand other paperbacks. I wasn't even looking in that particular section of books. But as I was walking by....my eye just went right to this book as if it were calling to me. So "Trick or Treat Murder" by Leslie Meier, had no choice but to be the newest addition to my library. The cover alone was worth the price with it's foil Jack O' Lantern on shiny black. But then I read the back cover and the 'New England in the Fall' settin
g is one that I am very familiar with, and see in my dreams as I await to travel there every October. It just sounded too wonderful to pass up. I just started this one, and so far, so good. Thought you might enjoy the synopsis off the back because it really gets one in to the Hallowe'en mood! You can pick these books up at any bookstore, or on Amazon."Haunted-house parties and ghostly galas...grinning pumpkins, mayhem and murder. It's going to be one heck of a Halloween for Lucy Stone and Tinker's Cove...It's October in Maine, and everyone in Tinker's Cove is preparing for the annual Halloween festival. While Lucy Stone is whipping up orange-frosted cupcakes, recycling tutus for her daughters' Halloween costumes, helping her son with his pre-teen rebellion, and breast-feeding her brand-new baby, an arsonist is loose in Tinker's Cove. When the latest fire claims the life of the owner of the town's oldest house, arson turns into murder...While the townsfolk work to transform a dilapidated mansion into a haunted house for the All-Ghouls festival, the hunt for the culprit heats up. Trick-or-treat turns deadly as a little digging in all the wrong places puts Lucy too close to a shocking discovery that could send all her best-laid plans up in smoke..."

Thanks for the heads up about the books. I love to read and will check them out. They sound wonderful. Judy
Yep, I read Garden Spells awhile back and ran out to the library for Sugar Queen. Loved both of them! It's interesting that you mentioned her next book cuz' it was supposed to be a book involving BBQ but it looks like she's abandoned that idea completely. I'm sure the next book will be just as good either way!
Thanks for the heads up on the books. I am off to go shopping!!
I was very happy with the film version of Practical Magic. It was done by Denise DiNovi - who has worked with Tim Burton on several projects. But as usual, I liked the book better. :)
Cheers!
Yes...if you love to have 'magic' thrown into your stories than you'll really like these. I can't wait for that next book Dracenea...I am hoping it throws a little 'moon magic' into the mix. I think I'd enjoy that more than BBQ...ha!
And I agree FQ...love the movie and loved the book even more!
PS...Harry Potter has officially begun tonight at midnight! Woo Hoo!
Hmmmm, not familiar with any of these authors. May have to check them out!!!
Gill....these are probably more 'chick' books than you would care for. Unless you are extremely open minded. They are more about relationships between people with magic thrown in. I loved them...but just giving you a heads up! :o)
I really miss reading!! Now that I have my little pumpkin, I never get to read anymore! The only time I can read is when she sleeps and at that point I am so tired I don't even last a page! I have a huge list of books out there just waiting for me and now I have all the books you just mentioned to add to it. Arr barr bar.
I hear ya Suz, it is hard to find time to read, especially when you are on MS, FB, FT, Blogging and have kids and a business...ha! And I usually don't do a ton of 'fiction' reading...but for some strange reason I have been on a reading rampage the last few weeks.
I also wanted to post an update to the Trick or Treat Murder book, as I have now finished it. It was 'okay', but nothing great. No where near as good as the others I mentioned. So there's that!
