I've been absent a few days while enduring the last minute rush before the start of school. In an extremely odd schedule this year, my chitlins started classes on a Wednesday....and who even knows the logic behind that foolishness??! Not I, but that being said, the days are now quieter....and I'm hoping they'll prove to be more conducive to Hallowe'en Crafting. Only time will tell on that one however, as Fall Semester is a busy season at school with Volleyball in full swing. But my hopes remain high!So as with most things Hallowe'en inspired...the Seasonal Ales/Beers are also starting to make their appearance earlier and earlier. I read that we used to not see them on store shelves until late Sept. to early Oct. But now they are starting to show up in August. I say, why not enjoy those first sips of Autumn Spiced Ale early? If you wait to stock up in October, you might find the supply has dwindled away and been replaced by Christmas Ales.
I found a few new ones, at least new to me....(which I'm sure may be old news to any Beer aficionados out there). But I think my favorite thing about the Seasonal Ales would have to be the packa
ging. I am the biggest sucker on the planet for Hallowe'en design on products. Most of the time I don't even particularly dig the flavor of the spices in these seasonal specialty brews, but I'll buy them just to sit out on the counter so I can look at them....pathetic I know. But just get a gander at the label above on New Holland's Ichabod Pumpkin Ale! I mean that's just a spooky-cool label for a Hallowe'en Beer, don't ya think?!And even cooler are the posters for their seasonal release parties, check 'em out. I don't know about ya'll, but they totally make me want to attend their event and throw back a few! (All New Holland Images © New Holland Brewing Company) And kudos to the artists' on their work here...as I could not find the names of who actually designed these, but I love their work.)
I also love this Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale! And it's description does make it sound most appealing and tasty..."Down to the hooting details: Night Owl is an easy-drinking pumpkin ale made with Pale, Munich and Crystal malts, green and roasted pumpkin seeds, and pumpkin in the mash, boil and fermenter. It is bittered with Magnum hops and spiced in conditioning with nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, ginger and allspice. " Yum Yum!
Or even the Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale below...it just looks so 'Autumn-ish' and it makes me want to sit outside on a crisp Fall day in an adirondack chair, sipping on my Pumpkin Ale....watching colored leaves twirling by on the wind. That's what good packaging can do for a product! Are any of you connoisseurs of Autumn Ales? And if so, what labels would you recommend for seasonal sipping? We always buy some to serve at our Annual Pumpkin Carving Party, so inquiring minds would like to know! :o)

Your bottles are cool looking! I reviewed 6 brands last year and my favorite was Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat. I noticed them trickling into the stores too-enjoy:@)

I have tried a few of these. I admit I also buy them just because of the Halloween graphics. They do get drunk! Oh and me too!
Woodchuck (hard cider) also makes a fall variety as well as a pumpkin one!
I definitely want to try some of these brews. xo
*sigh* I wish I lived in a place that offered more than one Halloween-inspired beer.
I am a beer aficionado. It might be impossible to find where you are, but try McAuslan's pumpkin ale. I want to try all of those you mentioned here. Beer is perfect for Halloween. Here I always have a Hobgoblin at this time and there are many Halloween-themed beers, but it is great to try new ones.
I enjoy wines myself, but these would be sort of cool to put out on display.
I am not a beer drinker but every year I try to swallow one of these hoping it will turn me and they just never do anything for me. However they are all being collected for the soon to be risen Halloween bar that I am building in the basement!
Cool post Wendy. I myself like Buffalo Bill's pumpkin ale.
I found that was the most "pumpkin flavor" without being too much. But I have not been able to find it for the past 2 years here (Illinois) I had a friend grab some in Ohio and bring it back for me. Give it a shot if you see it. On the cider note- try Angry Orchard hard cider.
Very good and it even has evil trees on the bottle!
Cheers!
Hey, you guys and gals are the best of the best! Thank you all SO much for you input and suggestions. I knew my Halloween Homies would be 'in the know' on this topic...that's why I love this place! :o)
Thank you, and I will add that we have a store here called World Market that is just what the name implies...a market of foods, beer, and wine from all over the world. They usually always have a wide array of these Seasonal Brews in the Fall, so I'm going to hit them up and see if I can't find some of your suggestions!
There has been a few Autumn brews sneaking into stores here. I picked up a case of Blue Moon's Autumn samplers, which had pumpkin ale & caramel apple spiced ale! I'm not much of a beer drinker, but there are a few that I really like. I just have to be in the mood for beer. My #1 FAVORITE of pumpkin beers is Southern Tier's 'Pumking' pumpkin ale. It is the greatest beer I've ever had in my life. Thing is, it's a bit pricy & it only comes in pints (my understanding is that it's because it has a higher alcohol content.) But when my local specialty beer store gets some in, I'll be right down there buying several pints to bring in fall!!
Oh, and the Pumking label, totally awesome!
I'm a complete beer snob, and I always love it when the seasonal ales start to trickle into stores (no surprise, but the pumpkin ales are my absolute faves). I've not tried any of these, but the Ichabod themed one is appealing to me based on the bottle alone!!!
Personally, I love Shock Top and Blue Moon Pumpkin Ales, but this year I'm on a strict diet that prohibits alcohol (something to do with interferring with my weight loss supplements). I dunno...I may have to cheat and have ONE on Halloween night!!!
I love that poster! And with those pics on the bottles will have to buy me some!
