My Photography - Delicious Autumn

"Delicious autumn!
My very soul is wedded to it...
and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth
seeking the successive autumns."
~ George Eliot

There is no truer sentiment for me than that one. I am an Autumn person through and through. That may seem strange coming from a 3rd generation Florida girl. And truth be told, I may have never even known it, had I not ventured into the North Georgia Mountains in my college years. I don't recall my parents ever having taken us anywhere during the Fall. But the first time I laid eyes on the beauty of the colored leaves, and scarecrows in the fields and apple orchards and pumpkin patches...I knew that I was 'home'. The Autumn air, the nubby sweaters and scent of burning leaves makes me feel positively charged...almost euphoric. I sometimes wonder if that is just because absence makes the heart grow fonder.

So when I had children of my own...I could NOT WAIT to take them North to experience Fall. But even I had no idea how truly glorious it can be until we went to see Autumn in New England. I'm not sure if anything will ever rival the beauty of that. So we trek back there every year now because I pine for it through our long hot summers. On one of our jaunts through Vermont, we stopped somewhere to get some ice-cream. And this photo was taken outside near a small house. I thought to myself that sitting in those chairs, breathing in the crisp Autumn air and taking in the spectacular colors, would most certainly be my ultimate Zen place!

Of course photos can be a bit deceiving because of what they don't show. And in this case, what you don't see in this peaceful Autumnal snapshot, is the hustle and bustle of eager hungry tourists trekking through the parking lot and up the big hill to the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory. Bet you wouldn't have guessed that! It gives new meaning to the term 'Delicious Autumn'...ha! So why not take this opportunity to visit B&J's 'Flavor Graveyard' now...they have a great little Halloween website! Be sure to visit the Crypt, the Mansion Grounds and the Laboratory while you're there! It's great for kids as well!

I couldn't agree more.
In fact, I named my daughter Autumn. :)

What a beautiful picture...and even better if ice cream is close by. LOL

I guess it only makes sense that most of us who love Hallowe'en so, also happen to be Autumn people. I think it is the vibrancy of all that color Dede that makes me love it so. I'm an artist...so color rules my world. And Bridgett, you are not the only person I know that named your daughter Autumn...I probably would have, but there was already one in the family and you know how that goes...ha!

Such a great photo! I remember being in Vermont, in early October. It was already starting to snow flurry up there.
I've been to Ben & Jerry's. The Flavor Graveyard makes me a little sad. Seems like I"m always thinking about one ice cream or another that B&J used to make, that I LOVED, and now they don't make it anymore.

Autumn is also my favourite season of all. It is sensational and inspiring.

I am an autumn person too. For me, it is the ''comfort'' season: colours are is warm, friendly, clothes are comfortable, the cold autumn days make you feel alive... I can feel it coming these days, in the last days of August. It will be the first day of September tomorrow. This is when Autumn really starts, I think.

I love Autumn for many reasons and it is very comfortable as you say Guillaume. But I also feel very spiritual in Autumn and connected to the earth and to the cycle of life.

BEAUTIFUL pic, Wens! Absolutely amazing!!!

I've always loved Spring and Autumn for the fact that they are transitional periods where you really can see the life cycle of nature at work. These two seasons are celebratory for me, because you can feel the earth herself transforming. As you said, there is a real sense of spirituality during these times.

Of course, the moderate temperatures are wonderful as well! Autumn rules all for Halloween and Thanksgiving! The two BEST holidays! Both are fun, involve pigging out, and are times to gather with friends and family.

I think you and I believe that Autumn non-officially begins with our birthdays, haha. Love the pics. Too bad you don't live up there where you could supply us with more of your talent and eye for Autumn.
