BIZARRE THINGS - Freaky Fingers

It is now time for this random installment of 'Bizarre Things.'

Okay...WOW! This is mind-boggling and a bit disturbing to me on so many levels, that I'm not sure where to begin. But none the less, it is freaktastically real, and thereby qualifies for this random installment of 'BIZARRE THINGS!' (this is the part where you would normally hear a deep, reverberating, exaggerated ring-master type voice bellow out..."B-I-Z-A-R-R-E.....T-H-I-N-G-S"....IF this blog had an audio with it).
This is a photo of Ms. Lee Redmond of Salt Lake City, Utah. 66-year-old Lee, is a very unique gal, and a world record holder to boot. I'll give you a minute to study the image and see if you can deduce what it is that makes Lee so....well....unique! (and this is where you would hear the Jeopardy music playing...DING!) Times up. If you guessed, the color of her hair....then you are obviously NOT looking in the right place. No, it would be the combined 28 FEET of fingernails on her hands that is her signature defining feature. And no, that was not a typo. The combined length of all her nails has been measured at 28 FEET, and have been growing since 1979. Ms. Redmond became the new world record holder of unfathomably long fingernails in 2006.

Now I can appreciate everyone's unique contribution to the world, and Lee is no exception. The patience to wait 30 years to achieve a world record, coupled with the adroitness needed to avoid breaking one in all that time, is nothing short of remarkable. But what I cannot seem to wrap my mind around is how in the world she manages to do....well......ANYTHING! If anyone reading this blog has any clue whatsoever as to how she might, say, get dressed, go to the bathroom, cook, sleep, scratch an itch, brush her teeth, or pretty much ANYTHING AT ALL, other than sitting around and letting her fingernails grow....I would be much obliged if you would share it with us here, as I am genuinely intrigued and curious.

Sadly however, as is often the case in life....stories sometimes have not-so-happy endings to them....this one included. It appears that Ms. Redmond was seriously injured in a car accident on Feb. 10th of this year, and her record winning nails were damaged beyond repair. The good news is that Lee is expected to make a full recovery, thank goodness.
