How can it be that I adore the images of ravens, crows and owls, even using them frequently in my art....yet I really dislike birds when they aren't in photographs or artwork? It could be that my cousin and I were swarmed by screaming seagulls when we were young girls. Yes, unwittingly, we trotted out to the beach with doughnuts in our hands, and every ravenous seagull on the east coast of Florida came out of nowhere and start
ed diving at us. My cousin threw her doughnut down and ran off screaming down the beach, with birds in hot pursuit. But yours truly, just stood there frozen like a deer in headlights, clinging to my precious doughnut for dear life, and screaming and crying while birds were dive bombing me from all directions. I did FINALLY make a run for it, but not until well after I was scarred for life...ha! Now that we are grown, we still talk about that fateful summer day many moons ago. And although I do NOT like to get too close to live birds as a result, I do encourage them to my birdfeeder with seed. But she developed what I can only surmise is a slight phobia from the incident. I laugh about it now...but she remains somber and bitter about BIRDS!
So that little memory sparked my comparison of how we were sort of in our own real life Alfred Hitchcock movie that day. That would be life imitating art I guess? Anyway, thought I'd post a few old photos of the movie, and one other fabulous find...the Collectors Edition, 'The Birds' Barbie by Mattel. Now this is fab, and something that I'd love to own. I think she would look great set out for Halloween. She even has the smart little green suit from the movie, and the birds attacking her! Kudos to Mattel for making such a frighteningly fun Barbie. Think I may watch that movie tonight....or not!

I love the Hitckcock movie, it is one of those late summer/early autumn kind of horror movies. I also love crows and ravens, partially because they are so sinister. Corvids are really intelligent too.
Yes..I REAlLY love to use them in my art and photography. Whenever I spot a crow or raven...I always think to myself that they are there to bring a little magic and mysticism to me in that moment!
