Spook Show Thrills and Chills

During the 1920's, Spiritualism was coming into fashion as more and more people became fixated on communicating with the dead. Magicians of the time would put on "Spook Shows" where they used their illusions and magic to conjure up the Spirits. These Spook Shows became quite popular and were oft times held at movie theatres following the feature presentation, with the Midnight Show quickly becoming the favorite.

The artwork on the Spook Show posters is quite unique and always aimed at building the crowd's excitement and curiosity. Promises of "Spirit Table Raisings, Talking Skulls and THE THRILL OF YOUR LIFE"...were accompanied by images of spooky Ghosts and Skeletons. You can see many examples of the Spook Show cards at Richard Miller's site http://www.spookshows.com This is a great informative site where you can learn more about the history of Spook Shows. And if you find one you really like, you can even have it printed up on your very own T-shirt!
